The Cozy Corner Earns Green Business Certification

Sacramento, July 2025
The Cozy Corner, a midtown café loved for its relaxed atmosphere and craft coffee, has become one of the newest recipients of the Green Business Sacramento Certification, a recognition awarded to local businesses that demonstrate strong commitment to sustainability and eco-friendly practices.

The path to certification was neither short nor easy. Over the past year, the café has overhauled its operations to reduce its environmental footprint. It introduced composting stations both in the kitchen and in the customer area, switched to 100% compostable cutlery and cups, installed energy-efficient LED lighting throughout, and began sourcing most of its produce from farms within a 50-mile radius.

Owner Maria Gonzalez explained the motivation: “Our philosophy has always been about creating a warm, responsible space for our community. To us, that also means caring about the planet. Every small step adds up, and we wanted to lead by example.”

Customers have noticed the changes, too. Many patrons commented on the improved ambiance with natural lighting and the café’s new “Sustainable Choices” menu, which highlights plant-based options and locally grown ingredients. Social media feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with one review calling it “a café that finally makes you feel good about where your money goes.”

City officials praised The Cozy Corner during the certification ceremony, noting that small businesses like it play a crucial role in Sacramento’s goal of becoming a leader in urban sustainability. The café has also announced plans to host a quarterly “Green Talks” series, inviting experts to speak about eco-friendly practices that residents can apply at home.

For The Cozy Corner, the recognition cements its role not just as a place to drink coffee but as a model for how small businesses can drive meaningful community change.
